Born in the Bronx, NY and now living in Manhattan, Mario began playing the guitar seriously at 14. His idols, at that early stage, were Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana. The first 3 Santana albums, in particular, were like the “holy grail” for him. Santana’s passion and fiery, melodic style drew him in and he spent many hours playing the LP’s over and over again, slowing them down, and learning many of the solos note for note.
“It’s not that I wanted to copy Carlos per se, but I wanted my playing to reach people in a similar way. To be able to express what I’m feeling inside through the guitar and make others feel it, too, is the magic potion I’ve been chasing ever since I heard ‘Samba Pa Ti’ for the first time.”
