George Gonzalez
Timbales
In 1970, George Gonzalez heard timbalero, Jose “Chepito” Areas on Santana’s “Abraxas” album for the first time. His life was changed forever. George infuses elements of Chepito Areas and Orestes Vilato into Taboo. A student of the old school of timbale playing and a great admirer of master conguero, Francisco Aquabella, Gonzalez is the “left-hook” of the conga-timbale combination of Taboo.

As in Santana, all the percussionists in Taboo come with powerful personalities that demand to be heard. The timbale rhythms and syncopated accents of George Gonzalez are not to be denied.

While certainly a student of the history of Latin Percussion, presently Gonzalez teaches world history at the Metropolitan Corporate Academy in Brooklyn, New York.
