Aramis Marin
Congas
Like his brother, Willie, Aramis grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan, listening to an eclectic mix of R & B, Salsa, Rock and Jazz. He counts among his greatest influences Mongo Santamaria, Ray Baretto and Santana’s Armando Peraza. It was Armando’s playing that really shook up Aramis’ musical world and he began playing all over the neighborhood, honing his chops at weekend percussion jams that would last for hours.

Aramis’ musical style is a lot like his personality – at times groovy and tender and then suddenly wicked and passionate. He can play like a possessed man, oftentimes losing himself in the heat of the moment. As the heartbeat of the Taboo rhythm section, Aramis churns out the intricate beats, the “pulse”, that helps propel the band forward. Watch him turn it on in “Jingo”, “Guajira” or “Soul Sacrifice”, playing from the heart and providing the latin soul that is so essential to the Santana sound.
